초록

Ablation resistance of polymer-matrix nanocomposites are investigated and compared for phenolic- or epoxyresin as a matrix and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) or boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs) as a particulate filler. Overall, phenol-matrix nanocomposites exhibit superior ablation resistance compared to epoxymatrix nanocomposites. Incorporation of nanotubes increases the ablation resistance of polymer-matrices, and results in the formation of graphitic rods within the carbonized region. These graphitic rods are revealed to be thicker in the phenol-matrix than in the epoxy-matrix. In addition, to enhance the ablation resistance of nanocomposites, MWCNTs are more effective in the epoxy-matrix than in the phenol-matrix but the effects of BNNTs are similar in both matrices. Raman spectra evidence that the notable effectiveness of MWCNT in epoxy-matrix is attributed to the high degree of graphitization.
