Posttraumatic Growth and Its Relations with Social Support, Ego-Resilience, and Deliberate Rumination among Vietnamese Migrant Women Living in Korea and Returnees

초록

The present study examined the mediating relationships among social support, ego-resilience, and deliberate rumi- nation in predicting posttraumatic growth of 80 Vietnamese marriage-migrant women who had experienced inter- personal trauma. In particular, the study compared the growth pathways of Vietnamese migrant women residing in Korea and those who had returned to Vietnam, who were rarely addressed in previous empirical research. A self-report online survey was administered to 39 Vietnamese marriage migrants living in Korea and 41 returnees who had resettled in Vietnam. Results showed that returnees reported higher levels of trauma intensity and impact compared to women residing in Korea. Despite these differences, however, the two groups did not differ in their pathways to posttraumatic growth. In both groups, social support predicted posttraumatic growth through the full mediation of ego-resilience. The mediating effect of deliberate rumination was not significant in either group. These findings offer theoretical implications for the contextual generalizability of posttraumatic growth models and suggest practical implications for the development of intervention programs tailored to returnee women.
