‘아무 (NP)-도’ 부정극어와 양태 구문 해석

초록

This paper aims to elucidate why ‘amu (NP)-to’ functions as a negative polarity item (NPI) and how its distribution affects the interpretation of modal constructions. The main arguments are summarized as follows. First, ‘amu’ has an existential quantificational property, and ‘amu (NP)-to’ exhibits negative polarity due to the inherent semantic features of the lexical items ‘amu’ and ‘-to’. Second, the variation in the interpretations of the modal construction ‘-ul su iss-’ depending on the distribution of ‘amu (NP)-to’ can be explained in terms of the syntactic structure of ‘-ul su iss-’ constructions and the condition on NPI licensing. Third, in constructions such as ‘-ul li eop-’ and ‘-ul su eop-’, ‘amu (NP)-to’ is licensed through the inheritance of the ability to license NPIs. Fourth, this ability to license NPIs is determined by the degree of integrity among the lexical items constituting the constructions, and this integrity can be verified through co-indexation among arguments and null argument realization.
