Design of high efficiency rectifier at 2.45 GHz using parasitic canceling circuit

In this article, high efficiency rectifiers using parasitic canceling circuits are presented at 2.45 GHz. Input matching circuit and DC filter, which are the basic sub-blocks of rectifiers, are designed for high efficiency operation. Then, the parasitic canceling circuit is designed and inserted between the rectifying diode and DC filter such that the parasitic elements of the diode is properly canceled out to minimize the harmonic generations and maximize the efficiency. For this purpose, the equivalent circuit of the diode is extracted, and the impedances seen by the intrinsic diode resistance are investigated at harmonic frequencies. To verify the suggested idea, two rectifiers with parasitic canceling circuits are demonstrated at 2.45 GHz, that is, low power rectifier (LP rectifier) which is optimally designed for low input power (lower than 0 dBm), and high power rectifier (HP rectifier) for high input power (higher than 0 dBm). The measurement of LP rectifier shows efficiency of 60% at the input power of 0 dBm. The HP rectifier achieves the maximum efficiency of 72% at the input power of 10 dBm. Both results belong to the excellent performance among the reported rectifiers at the same frequency. (C) 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
