초록
This study posits that the primary difficulty for Vietnamese learners of Korean regarding passive constructions lies in Active–Passive Judgment rather than structural forms. Accordingly, it investigates the cognitive sources of errors arising from structural and cognitive differences between the two languages. Based on learner corpus analysis and in-depth interviews, the study identified three primary causes rooted in L1 transfer. First, learners over-generalized the modal functions of Vietnamese markers(bị/được) as passive forms due to their polysemous nature. Second, due to structural differences, learners misinterpreted sentences with omitted passive markers as active constructions. Third, cross-linguistic differences in expressing psychological states result in inappropriate use of passive forms in the target language. These findings suggest that instruction must shift from a form-focused approach to one that explicitly addresses these cross-linguistic cognitive differences to restructure learners’cognitive schemas.
