Optimized Image Quality Determination for Backlight Dimming

초록

Backlight dimming algorithms reduce the power consumption in the display backlight, and improve image quality. In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm for improving image quality by focusing on color differences. A metric capable of quantifying the color difference is set as an objective function. In addition, it uses the gradient descent method to find the optimal color ratio with the minimal color difference. As a result, it provides the better image quality at the same amount of power compared to the previous method. In addition, it can further reduce power consumption for the target PSNR.
