The Grammatical Category and Property of Idioms: The Semantics and Syntax of Verbal Idioms
초록
This paper aims to examine the grammatical category of idiom, and explain its grammatical property. Idiom is formally a syntactic phrase, but its meaning is not compositional. So, I think that idiom is an object listed in the lexicon. Every constituent of idiom is a word syntactically. But it is different from a common word, because it is only a formal word in syntax. This is the reason idiom is only appliable to the syntactic operations (such as modification, topicalization, relativization, etc.) only if its idiomatic meaning is maintained.
