초록

This article is a analysis of history of interpretation of The Story of Ah-Q, which is renowned as a key piece of literature of the times of Lu Xun and in Chinese modern literature. This analysis showed how the Text was interpreted at different times. The main purpose of this paper was to find out how The Story of Ah-Q was interpreted in the course of Chinese modern history and to analyze any political issues involved with the interpretation of the text. My hypothesis regarding this matter was that the interpretation of Ah-Q has been modified according to the political and social factors surrounding it at the time. Therefore the study of the history of Ah-Q's interpretations would explain the political characteristics of Chinese modern literature. This article was revealed that The Story of Ah-Q has been interpreted in a political perspective in China. My first point is in relation to the theme of The Story of Ah-Q. At the time of it being published, the Ah-Q, was considered to be a symbol of the Chinese people and was interpreted as literature which criticized Chinese racial characteristics and feudalistic ideas. Namely it was written with the purpose of changing Chinese underdeveloped racial characteristics into modern ones. However, from the late 1920‘s when there were social revolutionary movements, the way of analyzing the theme of The Story of Ah-Q faced a significant challenge. A trend that regarded Ah-Q as a symbol of farmers emerged. Based on this idea, the main theme of The Story of Ah-Q was analyzed as being opposition and resistance against feudalism. This perspective had continued till the end of 1970’s since the People's Republic of China was established.
