Ultra-fast responsive photonic crystal based volatile organic compounds (VOCs) sensor using peel-off process

There has been a great need for developing a simple, rapid, and inexpensive detection assay for health care applications or monitoring environments. However, it is hard to find the commercialized sensor for common users, which is possible for easy, rapid, and on site detection, except a home pregnancy test and a glucose sensor utilizing "test strips". Many researchers have been interested on photonic crystal (PC) based sensor due to the advantages, such as colorimetric measurement, sensitivity, and real-time monitoring, low cost, etc. However, the response time, which is important characteristic in the sensor, is relatively slow due to the residual film layers on PC sensor. In order to address these problems, we propose an ultra-fast responsive photonic crystal (PC) based sensor using a simple peeloff process. Finally, the response time for VOCs detection is dramatically decreased due to non-residual on PC sensor proposed device shows that excellent response time within seconds.
