Three-Dimensional Chemotaxis Model for a Single Bacterium

This paper presents a three-dimensional chemotaxis model for a single bacterium. The single cell study for bacterial chemotaxis leads to more accurate assessments of chemotaxis providing more clear observations of cell migration. We use the diffuse interface model in our model, which incorporates chemotactic mechanism. The system is numerically solved by the semi-implicit Fourier spectral method for high efficiency and numerical stability. The simulation results reveal rich dynamics of cell migration and provide quantitative assessments of bacterial chemotaxis with various chemoattractant gradient fields.
