This paper presents the efficient dynamic code assignment (DCA) method for orthogonal variable spreading factor (OVSF) code using the single code indexing method. Conventional indexing method based on code tree structure uses a spreading factor and a code number to represent OVSF code word. On the contrary, the single code indexing method uses a single number index indicating each code word. In the single code indexing method a binary representation of code index enables user equipment (UE) to check the orthogonality between any two codes. Hence, in the case of employing single code indexing method to represent OVSF code, DCA process becomes easy and fast without large look-up table. Our simulation results show that DCA time is reduced by using the single code indexing method.
