차별은 언제 인식되는가: 젠더 관련 일상적 상황에서 마이크로어그레션 인식의 경계

초록

This study explores gender conflict in South Korea by focusing on the conditions under which everyday situations are perceived as sexist or discriminatory. By conceptualizing microaggressions as everyday interactions situated at the interpretive boundary of what is recognized as gender-based bias or discrimination, the study analyzes how these boundaries of recognition vary by gender and age. Using a mixed-methods research design, we first conducted in-depth interviews to explore subtle gendered remarks encountered in daily life and recipients’ perceptions of these interactions. Based on these findings, we developed vignette-based scenarios representing a wide range of everyday situations and administered a nationwide survey (N=1,000). The results indicate that the ways in which gender-related everyday situations are recognized as microaggressions are structured by familistic life-course norms and hierarchical cultural contexts in South Korea, with pronounced differences across gender and age groups. These findings extend prior research—which has primarily focused on structural inequality—by empirically demonstrating the social boundaries of recognition and judgment through which everyday situations come to be regarded as discriminatory. By examining microaggressions within the cultural context of Korean society, this study provides empirical evidence for understanding how differentiated patterns of interpretation and judgment contribute to contemporary gender conflict.
