Mutational breeding, a proven and potent technique in global crop enhancement programs, induces genetic mutations in crops via radiation or chemical mutagens, fosters an array of advantageous traits, including improved nutrition, increased yields, enhanced tolerance to abiotic stresses, resistance to pests, and numerous other beneficial characteristics. This abstract delves into its central role in contemporary agriculture and its transition toward sustainable food production. By initiating controlled mutations and employing selective screening, researchers and breeders expedite the development of superior crop varieties, diminishing reliance on time-consuming conventional breeding approaches. In advancing genetics and genomics, mutational breeding techniques are pivotal in shaping sustainable agriculture and ensuring global food security while addressing the challenges of the 21st century.
