MULTISCALE SIMULATION OF MULTIPHASE FLOW USING A COUPLED VOF AND 2-FLUID METHOD

초록

The volume-of-fluid (VOF) method is coupled with the 2-fluid Eulerian model for multiscale simulations of multiphase flows. The algebraic VOF is applied to track large-scale interfaces, whose length scale is comparable to the computational grid size, while the 2-fluid model is applied to subgrid-scale interfaces combining with interfacial force models. The coupled method is further combined with the level-set method to accurately calculate the interface curvatures, and with the mixture model to a seamless connection between the VOF and 2-fluid methods. The method is applied to the Rayleigh-Taylor instability problem where the interface is characterized by large and small length scales. The numerical results demonstrate that the present method is applicable to multiscale simulations of multiphase flows.
