초록

Using 2014-2019 data from the Census on Establishments (for labor market concentration/monopsony power proxy) and the Local Area Labour Force Survey, this study investigates labor-demand determinants underlying the rise in short-hours part-time workers. Addressing endogeneity with a leave-one-out instrumental-variable strategy, the analysis finds that greater labor market concentration is linked to increased short-hours part-time employment and lower hourly wages, effects more pronounced in female-dominated industries. Specifically, the rise in short-hour part-time jobs concentrates among female workers, while the wage reduction affects male workers more.
