지역학으로서의 한문학 연구의 방법론적 전환과 과제

초록

This study critically examines how the concept of ‘region’ has been received and interpreted in the field of Sino-Korean Literature as Regional Studies.’ It analyzes the historical and academic contexts in which key concepts -Jibanghak(local studies), Jiyeokhak(regional studies), and locality- have emerged and been employed, and explores their respective implications when applied to the methodologies of Hanmunhak. The paper also reviews the methodological developments in regional studies following the implementation of local autonomy policies, such as the excavation of regional texts, biographical research on local figures, field investigations, and collaborations with local governments and cultural institutions. These efforts demonstrate that regional approaches to Hanmunhak have evolved from one-off initiatives to a more sustained and institutionalized field of research. However, despite these achievements, earlier studies have largely focused on highlighting the cultural uniqueness and heritage of specific regions, a trend rooted in the discourse of the so-called ‘age of localization’ As this discourse gives way to the more pressing issue of ‘regional extinction’ the current moment calls for a conceptual and methodological shift in how region-based literary research is conducted. Based on this critical awareness, this study proposes several directions for future scholarship. It differentiates between research tasks suited to individual scholars and those better undertaken collectively by academic associations or regional research institutes. It further argues that regional studies in Hanmunhak must evolve into a long-term, sustainable field grounded in collaborative and practice-oriented research. Through these considerations, the paper aims to contribute to re-establishing the trajectory of ‘Hanmunhak as regional studies’ in response to emerging societal demands and the evolving conditions of the academic field.
