남북한 민족주의 비교 연구:‘역사의 이용’을 중심으로

This study addresses the comparison of South & North Korea’s nationalism. Especially, this study focuses on the use of the national history and the national heroes, which were sponsored by the competing and opponent regimes. History itself became part of the competition between the two Korean states. While Park Chung- Hee regime in the South used the Korean history textbook and rediscovered the national heroes, Admiral Yi Soon-Sin and King Sejong, Kim Il-Sung regime in the North used the Korean history writing and rediscovered the founding father of the Korean nation, Dangoon. That is, both regimes constructed the different national history and emphasized the different national heroes. This difference was caused by the different historical viewpoints, for example historical materialism in the North and positivism in the South. The reason why they constructed their own national history was that they tried to monopolize and legitimize each regime’s national identity. In short, as using the history, North and South Korean regimes wanted to identify their political identity with ethnic identity (Korean nation).
