Current issues of major components for PEM fuel cells

초록

This chapter summarizes a recent advance in components for proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). Section 1 conveys the classification of fuel cells (FCs) and the basic principle of PEMFCs. Section 2 shows an improvement of PEMs including a modification of commercial membranes and novel fabrication methods. Section 3 deals with Pt and non-Pt based catalysts. Studies on the efficient gas diffusion layers (GDLs) are summarized in Section 4. Section 5 introduces materials and flow field designs for bipolar plates. Lastly, conclusions summarize all these contents. © 2015 Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
