Plant lipids: trends and beyond

초록

Lipids are one of the primary biological molecules in plants, and yet compared to proteins and nucleic acids there are still considerable gaps in our knowledge about their function that need to be researched. Building on the foundations of established biochemical studies on plant lipids, recent molecular biological approaches have revealed a number of novel functions, and an increasing number of plant scientists are becoming involved in the study of how lipids affect various aspects of plant function. This special issue aims to provide a timely update from experts at the frontier of this field of study. It presents cross-disciplinary discussions that open up new angles of research on important plant physiological issues from the perspective of lipids.
