This study explores the evolution of Donald Trump’s political beliefs between 2015 and 2024, a period during which he was a presidential candidate, served as president of the United States, was a defeated incumbent, and reemerged as the Republican presidential nominee. Using operational code theory and the Verb In Context System (VICS) method, the research analyzes Trump’s public speeches, with a focus on foreign policy rhetoric. The analysis indicates that Trump's shift from candidate to president coincided with a more positive and cooperative outlook on global politics. His 2020 election loss and subsequent legal troubles were linked to a shift toward a more adversarial, pessimistic, and confrontational worldview. His growing reliance on punitive strategies such as tariffs and controversial proposals like purchasing Greenland or asserting control over the Panama Canal highlight a broader shift in his perception of effective policymaking. These findings offer a deeper understanding of changes in Trump’s strategic thinking and their broader implications for his political and diplomatic conduct.
