Owing to their unique properties core-shell nanoparticles are of large interest in various fields. However, controlled, reproducible synthesis of these nanomaterials is still a challenge. Furthermore, screening of synthesis conditions is often a labour intensive task. Here we present an automated capillary droplet reactor for the synthesis of iron oxide - gold core-shell nanoparticles. Through an integrated absorption measurement the synthesis conditions can be adjusted automatically, optimizing the particle synthesis. We optimize the gold shells absorption at a wavelength of 585 nm, resulting in nanoparticles that can be used as MRI contrast agent, photo-thermal agent, and for Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS). © 2019 CBMS-0001.
