Kim, Kyung-Soo. 2007. The Modernity of the Fictions of Yeom Sang-Seop. This treatise is to study on the modernity of the fictions of Yeom Sang-Seop in terms of the Korean novelization of the novel genre. As an initiatory writer of the colonial Korea, Yeom Sang-Seop studied the modern Japanese literature including Natsme Soseki(夏目石) and Tanizaki Junichiro(谷崎潤一郞) and this experiences helped him to transformed the modern japanese fictions to the modern Korean fictions. Another impacts that made Yeom Sang-Seop as an pioneer writer of the modern Korean fictions are recognitions about Socialist realism and sympathy about the social Darwinism. Throught many debates with social critics of KAPF, he had percieved his moral obligations of the modern Korean fictions, and with the reception of the social Darwinism, he coule developed the fictional themed as individual, free love. Among these, the greatest achievement of Yeom Sang-Seop is the finding of the theme of comrade-love. The Three Generations is the exemplary fiction of this type. The consciousness of himself as a trueborn Seoulite is another complex and a fount of wisdom of him. And this consciousness led him to the suspicious consciousness of the possibility of the new literary movements in Manchuria. And this the limit of him as a founders of the modern Korean literature
