초록

The present study aimed to develop a brief version of the K-MAS, which comprehensively measures the ability of mentalization in the process of emotion regulation within interpersonal contexts, and to verify its factor structure, reliability and validity. An online self-report survey was conducted with 649 Korean men and women, and data were analyzed using SPSS and R programs. The unidimensionality test of each subscale of the K-MAS was examined to confirm a three-factor structure of emotion identification, emotion processing, and emotion expression. Items with good model fit were initially selected through confirmatory factor analysis(CFA) to facilitate stable estimation under item response theory. Using the generalized partial credit model based on item response theory; 6 items per subfactor were selected, resulting in an 18-items short form. To investigate whether the 7-point Likert scale on K-MAS was an adequate number of response categories, boundary parameters and categorical response functions of items were examined, and it was suggested that the scales were changed to a 5-point categorical option. The construct validity, concurrent validity, and internal consistency of both the original and the abridged K-MAS were high, and good convergent and criterion validities were also confirmed by correlational analyses with emotional dysregulation, RF, adult attachment, and life satisfaction. Correlations among the K-MAS Short Form subfactors were analyzed, and implications of this study and recommendations for future research were discussed.
