Enhancing student-visitors’ museum learning experience with school history curriculum at the exhibits of the Corea Dynasty

초록

This study aims to identify whether a museum learning programs, carefully designed to incorporate school history curriculum with museum exhibits, would provide meaningful learning experience to a group of secondary student-visitors. To do so, this study tried to develop a series of museum learning programs in the first hand considering museum artifacts and student-visitors needs. The program consists of significant themes that national history curriculum and textbooks propose in common, and the museum intend to display with original artifacts. This program utilizes four learning strategies:enhanced lecture, artifact analyses, and participating in discussion and presentation. This study demonstrates the principle and museum learning process focusing on the exhibition of the Corea Dynasty in the National Museum of Korea. Participating in the series of museum learning program enhanced students' historical understanding and provided plenty of opportunities to appreciate artifacts and motivations for learning history. Further studies could examine each and group of students’ learning experience by analyzing their presentation outputs and different forms of instruction to enhance their appreciation of artifacts and construction of historical narratives.
