Influence of self-focused attention on depression : The mediating effect of cognitive emotion regulation and self-acceptance

초록

This study aimed to examine the relationships among self-focused attention, depression, cognitive emotion regulation, and self-acceptance, and to verify the mediating effects of cognitive emotion regulation and self-acceptance in the relationship between self-focused attention and depression. An online survey was conducted with adults aged 19 and older, and data were collected from a final sample of 237 participants. The Self-Focused Attention Scale, Depression Scale, Self-Acceptance Scale, and Cognitive Emotion Regulation Scale were utilized, and correlation analysis and mediation effect analysis using the bootstrap method were performed. The results showed that self-focused attention had a positive correlation with depression and significant negative correlations with self-acceptance and cognitive emotion regulation. Cognitive emotion regulation and self-acceptance were found to partially mediate the relationship between self-focused attention and depression. Specifically, higher levels of self-focused attention were associated with lower cognitive emotion regulation and self-acceptance, which in turn led to increased depression. This study specifically identified the pathways through which self-focused attention affects depression, and suggests that interventions strengthening cognitive emotion regulation and self-acceptance in counseling and psychotherapy settings can effectively contribute to reducing depression.
