Synthesis and Characterization of Quinoxaline Derivative as Organic Semiconductors for Organic Thin-Film Transistors

Three new quinoxaline-based derivatives, end-functionalized with 2,3,5,8-tetraphenyl (3), 2,3-diphenyl-5,8-di(thiophen-2-yl) (4), and 2,3-diphenyl-5,8-bis(5-phenylthiophen-2-yl) (5) were synthesized, characterized, and incorporated as organic semiconductors in top-contact/bottom-gate organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs). Thermal, optical, and electrochemical properties of the newly developed compounds were fully investigated. For the fabrication of thin films of all three compounds, solution-shearing (SS) and vacuum deposition method were employed. Thin films of compound 5 showed p-channel characteristics with hole mobilities as high as 2.6x10(-5) cm(2)/Vs and current on/off ratio of 1.8x10(5) via solution process and 1.9x10(-4) cm(2)/Vs and current on/off ratio of 3.5x10(6) via vacuum deposition.
