NUMERICAL ANALYSIS OF PORE-SCALE MULTIPHASE FLOW USING CONSERVATIVE LEVEL-SET METHOD

초록

The fluid invasion patterns in a porous medium, which affect carbon sequestration, enhanced oil recovery and groundwater remediation, are numerically investigated by employing a conservative level-set method combined with a distance level-set method. An immersed boundary method is also implemented for pore-scale simulation of the fluid invasion process. The porous medium is assumed to consist of two-dimensional microscale solid cylinders which are arranged in a rectangle. The conservation equations are solved with no-slip and contact-angle conditions on the immersed solid cylinders. The fluid displacement patterns are investigated by varying the contact angle and the properties of the injected fluid. The effect of preferential path created in the porous medium on invasion patterns is also studied.
