초록

Lee, Chung-Hoon. 2020. Labeling Algorithm and Labeling in Korean. Korean Journal of Linguistics, 45-2, 287--330. Syntactic computation and semantic/phonological components need to identify the types of syntactic objects, so-called labels. Labels were stipulated in phrase structure rules and then determined by projection in X-bar theory. Adopting bare phrase structure theory, however, labels can not be stipulated or projected, because there are no such things such as phrase structure rules and projections. So, there must be an operation that determines the label of a syntactic object. Labeling operation determine labels based on the minimal search, a shared feature, and a movement as well as asymmetric merge, that is pair-merge. Furthermore, Korean shows other possibilities. Especially, in Korean in which the subject does not move out of the verbal phrase and remains in-situ, labeling by the semantic interface and the self attachment fashion V movement are needed. And in order to label the structure which is formed by scrambling, the aforementioned self attachment fashion V movement is required. Finally, it is proposed that the non-labeled structures are not allowed in general and co-existing labels are possible. (Sogang University)
