The Early Silla's Diplomacy between Northern Qi and Chen

초록

The article examines the diplomacy between Silla and the Period of North and South Dynasties in China during the region of King Jinheung. After received a decree naming form Northern Qi, King Jinheung sent an envoy to present tribute to Chen five times in a row. The first one was expression of gratitude about 1,700 copies of the words of Buddha and Myungwan, a Silla monk. The second was the attempt to create a sixteen- foot gilt-bronze Buddha in Hwangyongsa Temple after temple is built. The third reason was similar to the second reason. The fourth and fifth one was to bring necessary goods and artisans from Northern Qi for the construction of sixteen-foot gilt-bronze Buddha in Hwangyongsa Temple. King Jinheung wanted to establish a sixteen-foot gilt-bronze Buddha in Hwangyongsa Temple, he presented local products as a tribute. Accordingly, it is wrong to understood that the purpose was to keep the Northern Qi in check or to receive a decree naming from Northern Qi. Rather, King Jin-heung's counter-military foreign policy was ultimately part of his attempt to realize himself as the king of the Chakravartin and further, to follow the king of Ashoka. After the preparations for the formation of the sixteen-foot gilt-bronze Buddha in Hwangyongsa were completed, King Jingeung sent an envoy to Northern Qi. It is on record that he presented tribute, and it is closely related to the fact that Baekje had sent a decree naming from Northern Qi.
