역사 문해력 함양을 위한 미국의 교육과정 자료 비교 분석 -‘아테네 민주주의’를 중심으로-

초록

This study is part of an effort to implement historical literacy, which is touted as one of the goals of history education, within specific learning content and methods. To this end, a comparative analysis of the United States' history education curriculum materials was conducted. As is well-known, one of the significant objectives of history education in the United States is to cultivate historical literacy, enabling students to read and write about historical materials using historical thinking skills. This goal has garnered extensive support and led to the design of inquiry-based curricula in research projects and weekly lesson plans. The study examined how the central topic of 'Athenian Democracy' is explored for inquiry in three major history education curricula and what instructional and learning support tools are provided to facilitate students' inquiry. Based on this analysis, the study aims to derive insights that would be beneficial to researchers and educators in South Korea who are involved in designing history inquiry curricula and formulating questions.
