초록
This article is a study on the fantastic in the Modern Korean Fiction. the term ‘fantastic' is a problematic because of its vagueness and diversity in usage. So it is more productive that we use the term fantastic for unreal phenomena as personal fantasies, illusions, dreams and imaginative scenes fictional characters experience. This is the basic premise of this study. As a novelization of the western genre fiction, Modern Korean fiction found the fantastic in early times. The writer as Yeom Sang-Seop and Choi Seo-Hae used the fantastic scenes and daydreams in their many works. This is performed self-consciously or intuitively. Dream fantasy and exile schizophrenia is the attainment of early writers of modern Korean fiction. Through this first phase, modern Korean fiction recognized the extension of the realism. The second phase can be called as the creation of symbolic phantasm. Lee Je-Ha as a representative of this trend constructed the symbolic phantasm to his thematic structure, so readers could interpretate the meanings of this fictions through the analysis of this phantasms. This method is useful to avoid the sencorship of the dictatorial government. In this pfase, modern Korean fiction explored psychological features of individual human. In recent years, writers used the devices of spontaneous narration or narrative present. They created the unreal scenes and mindscreen of characters in postmodern society. And this method contributed the making of plural meaning of the fictional text. That is similar to the linguistic irrealis modality. The fantastic in the fiction in the modern Korean fiction can be uesful to newly recognize the history of modern Korean fiction. As an ontological poetics, the fantastic fiction enlarged the notion of modern fiction.
